An interior detail is a deep clean of everything inside the car: the places a vacuum at the gas station never reaches. If your car has crumbs in the seat tracks, a mystery smell or stains you’ve stopped noticing, this is the service that resets it.
What a professional interior detail includes
Carpets and floor mats
Mats come out and get cleaned separately. Carpets are vacuumed, treated for stains and cleaned with hot-water extraction, which pulls dirt and moisture back out instead of just wetting the fibers.
Seats
Cloth seats are shampooed and extracted. Leather is cleaned with a pH-balanced cleaner and conditioned so it stays soft and doesn’t crack in summer heat.
Dash, console and door panels
Every hard surface is cleaned, including vents, buttons, cupholders and door pockets, then protected with a non-greasy finish that resists UV fading.
Glass and screens
Streak-free glass inside, including the top of the windshield. Touchscreens are cleaned with screen-safe products.
The hidden spots
Seat tracks, between the seats and console, door jambs and the trunk. This is where most of the difference between a detail and a quick clean shows up.
Every interior is different. Tell us about pets, kids, spills or smells when you book so we can plan the time it needs.
Common add-ons
- Pet hair removal. See how to get dog hair out of a car.
- Odor removal for smoke, mildew and spills. See getting smoke smell out and musty smells.
- Heavy stain treatment for set-in spills.
Interior detail vs. full detail
An interior detail covers only the inside. A full detail adds the exterior wash, decontamination and paint protection. If both need attention, a full detail usually costs less than booking them separately. See what detailing costs.
Common questions
How long does an interior car detail take?
Usually 2 to 4 hours for most cars and SUVs. Heavy pet hair, stains or odor treatment can add time.
Can interior detailing remove stains?
Most common stains like coffee, soda, food and mud come out with hot-water extraction. Some older or dye-based stains can only be lightened, and a good detailer will tell you that up front.
How often should I get an interior detail?
Two to four times a year works for most families. Cars with kids, pets or long commutes benefit from the shorter end of that range.
