Wax, sealant and ceramic coatings all protect paint and add shine. The difference is how long they last, how much they cost and how much work they save you between washes.

Carnauba wax

Wax is a natural product that gives a warm, deep glow. It’s affordable and easy to apply, but it wears off quickly, often within weeks in summer heat. It’s a good choice if you enjoy waxing your own car and don’t mind redoing it often.

Paint sealant

A sealant is a synthetic polymer that bonds to paint better than wax. It typically lasts a few months, gives a slick, glassy look and is what we apply in our exterior and full details. It’s the middle ground on price and durability.

Ceramic coating

A ceramic coating chemically bonds to your clear coat and cures into a hard, slick layer. It lasts years rather than months, resists UV fading, and makes pollen, dirt and bird droppings much easier to wash off. It costs more up front because it must be applied to perfectly prepared paint, which usually means a paint correction first.

Which should you choose?

If you’re keeping the vehicle for years, park outside, or simply hate seeing pollen and water spots, a ceramic coating usually pays for itself in time saved. If you’re leasing or plan to sell soon, a sealant during a full detail is the practical choice.

What a coating won’t do

Coatings aren’t scratch-proof, and they don’t replace washing. They also lock in whatever is underneath, so swirl marks need to be corrected before the coating goes on.
